LEVEL 3 AWARD IN FIRST AID AT WORK

Aim

This qualification is aimed those undertaking the role of a first aider in the workplace.

What this course is about

The qualification meets the requirements for First Aid at Work as outlined in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. Learners undertaking this qualification may wish to progress to the QNUK Level 3 Award in Responding to Incidents with an AED.

Who this course is for/ entry requirements

This course is for those in a work environment who wish to upskill and play a supporting role for those who may need first aid at work.

Learners must be 16 years +

Learners must have sufficient command of the English language in order to take the assessment.

Units

  • Emergency First Aid in the Workplace
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider.
  • Be able to assess an incident.
  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty.
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking.
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries.
  • Recognition and management of illness and injury in the workplace
  • Be able to conduct a secondary survey.
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness.

 

Assessment and Qualification

Learners will be assessed using a multiple-choice question paper and practical observation. The test paper has 30 questions and a pass mark of 66% candidates have 40 minutes to complete the test. The practical section will consist of candidate demonstration of skills and be assessed by a tutor.

Upon successful completion of the course candidates will receive a Level 3 award in First Aid at Work.

How long this course is

This course has a duration of 1 day learning with the tutor from 9am to 6pm.
